Ashwagandha Can Be a Potent Natural Stress Relief Remedy : My Experience


If you’re like me just a few short months ago, you’ve never heard of the Indian medicine herb called ashwagandha.

This herb is taken primarily from the root of the plant. The plant is a relative of the tomato family and produces small red fruits much like a tomato.

I came across this herbal remedy for stress and anxiety when I was reading about a totally unrelated topic a few months back. Since I periodically struggle with managing my stress and anxiety levels, I’m always on the lookout for great natural methods to help me with those times.

My personal experience with the herb

As a result I’ve tried quite a few, including 5htp, St. Johns Wort, SAM-e, lemon balm, chamomile and kava kava. They all have different effects, but none really reduced anxiety or stress the way I needed them to. I’m a perfectionist type personality by the way – a Virgo birth sign all the way, so I do tend to take things a bit too seriously at times.

I enjoy the higher sense of calm and peace without intervention of any type of chemicals or drugs which I refuse to try due to their numerous side effects. Ashwagandha is probably the most effective all-around relaxation agent that I’ve found so far.

What I love about taking it is that there are really no side effects for me personally and the plant root is incredibly high in antioxidants, so it’s really a no-brainer that taking it has multipurpose benefits for the body, mind and spirit.

The plant is basically considered a powerful natural adaptogen for the nervous system, which means it can help the body and mind cope much better with the stresses and anxieties that life can produce at times.

Excessive stress is unhealthy because it can lower immunity, increase your levels of highly destructive stress hormones, interfere with sound sleep, and generally lower your overall quality and enjoyment of life. Life is too short for that!

I’ve noticed that I just feel more “level” and better able to handle stressful situations when they arise. I’ve also noticed that I do sleep better at night. I take one 450 mg dose about two to three hours before bed and find that it mellows me out pretty well after about two hours.

May boost immunity too, and is reasonably priced

I bought a bottle of this supplement for about $13 online, so it’s reasonable. I have my husband taking it a couple hours before bed as well and I find that he’s much easier to awaken in the morning for work (usually he’s really sleepy for a while and hard to get out of bed since he gets up after me).

In addition to the stress management properties, ashwaghanda also helps to boost immunity. This may perhaps be directly related to its ability to lessen anxiety and stress, which have direct effects on your immunity. I have noticed no side effects from taking it, so I think this is going to be a staple supplement in our household.
