Vitamin C Ester Capsules

This is part II of our two part series about this  very important form of Vitamin C. Take a look at Vitamin C Ester Part I for more great info on this powerful vitamin!

Vitamin C Ester for Sun Damage

Vitamin C ester has been one of the most important ingredients, along with MSM, in my skin care routine (these are two of the primary ingredients in our Nourish & Hydrate Skin Cream). Using these two in conjunction with each other has really helped me to even out my skin tone. I tend to be on the ruddy/red spectrum due to my Irish European background. So my skin definitely has some years of sun damage on tops of battling newly emerging sun damage.

Even if you religiously protect your skin from UV damage, there’s bound to be some rays that get through! These two ingredients combined really help to not only keep skin even toned, but also to keep it hydrated and elastic.

Ester penetrates very effectively, so it definitely is the vitamin C of choice to use when you’re looking for a topical version of this potent vitamin. Oh by the way, it can also have an important anti-inflammatory impact, just like it does within the body. Related: Remedies for Thinning Hair Part III

Ester Version Applied Topically for Increased Skin Flexibility

Due to its superior ability to penetrate deeply into the skin, vitamin C ester has an added benefit of helping to increase the skins flexibility or elasticity as well. But more importantly, when taken internally, the ester version has an important recycling effect on collagen.

Collagen is basically the underlying foundation of soft, supple and smooth skin. When collagen breaks down, it has a sort of deflating effect on the appearance of the skin. When collagen is plentiful, skin looks full, plump, moisturized.

When collagen is broken down, this is the equivalent of a home’s foundation breaking down. It can begin to slacken, causing a sort of sagging appearance, and enabling deeper wrinkles to form due to a lack of underlying support and “spring”.

The effect this vitamin has on collagen synthesis, combined with the superior ability to absorb and be utilized by the body, PLUS the external topical effects on the skin, launches it to a whole ‘ other level of importance in the skincare world.

Internal (Oral) Supplementation - A No-Brainer

Additionally, vitamin C is thought to have immune boosting and cancer-prevention benefits when taken internally. This important vitamin must be added to any diet and skincare regimen for more than a few health and beauty reasons. Related: Cod Liver Oil Naturally Sun-Protective?

And even though the ester version is a little more costly due to the manufacturing process needed to make the finished product, in the grand scheme of things it’s still pretty affordable considering the multitude of benefits.

You may want to read more about Liposomal Vitamin C if you’re thinking of a non-ester C, however you’ll pay just about the same amount for the ester version. Of course, the least expensive is straight up, plain old L-Ascorbic Acid.

When you consider the potential immune-boosting benefits alone, along with cancer prevention, increasing the bio-availability of other nutrients like iron and its critical role in healthy healing and collagen formation, it really is a no brainer to make this inexpensive vitamin a part of your supplement routine, whichever version you choose.
